Skelly & Couch's winning ten years!
Skelly & Couch’s tenth anniversary celebrations have been given an extra boost by multiple project nominations in the inaugural AJ Architecture Awards. The ceremony will be held on 7 December 2017 at Grosvenor House in London's Mayfair.
To date no fewer than four Skelly & Couch projects are finalists in the new awards, which showcase the very best built projects in the UK. Nominated for top Housing Project is Paradise Gardens (Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands) in Hammersmith, winner of a 2017 RIBA National Award. In the best Cultural category is the refurbishment and extension of the acclaimed Bush Theatre (Haworth Tompkins) in Shepherd’s Bush. Named as a Higher Education finalist is the striking Chadwick Hall student accommodation (Henley Halebrown Rorrison) at the University of Roehampton; and recognised as a prime contender for Community & Faith project of the year is RIBA National Award winner Vajrasana Buddhist Retreat Centre (Walters & Cohen) in Suffolk.
Skelly & Couch was founded in 2007 and is run by Directors Mark Skelly, Tristan Couch, Mark Maidment and Stephen White. The design-led practice has grown steadily over the past ten years through mainly repeat business, and now employs 40 people. It has won more than 400 commissions in a decade.
As a leader in our field, the ethos of the practice is to support the design and construction of sustainable buildings which not only use less energy, but perform environmentally and socially; are capable of being efficiently maintained and operated; and have the flexibility to stand the test of time for future generations.
Our projects have won many architectural and sustainability awards, including 21 RIBA Regional Awards and seven RIBA National Awards. The outstanding Command of the Oceans: The Historic Dockyard Chatham (Baynes and Mitchell), has recently been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2017, the most prestigious architecture award in the UK. Skelly & Couch won Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) Building Services Excellence Awards for two years running and was named one of the construction industry's top 50 employers for two consecutive years in Building magazine's Good Employer Guide 2015 and 2016. The firm has achieved ISO 9001 accreditation and ISO 14001 certification for environmental management.
Two years ago Skelly & Couch moved to new studio offices overlooking the Regent’s Canal close to Old Street, London’s dynamic hub for design-led businesses.
